Product Description

Compost is organic material and composting is the natural process of 'rotting' or decomposition of organic matter by microorganisms under controlled conditions. Composting raw organic materials such as crop residues, animal wastes, food garbage, some municipal wastes and suitable industrial wastes, enhance their suitability for application to the poor soils and gardens. Compost also helps retain soil moisture, thereby improving growing conditions. Fruits, vegetables, dairy products, grains, bread, unbleached paper napkins, coffee filters, eggshells, meats and newspaper etc. can be composted. Solid waste management is fast becoming an insurmountable challenge across urban India due to changing lifestyle and increase in population.

The existing waste dumping sites are full beyond capacity, which leads to pollution of water resources, spreading communicable diseases, foul smell etc. Existing methods to its treatment and disposal are rather expensive. Urban Indian citizen generates nearly 250 KG per year of solid waste, which is around 700 grams each day. A substantial portion of solid waste is non-toxic and organic in nature. Composting technology is one of the best options available for the treatment of organic-rich solid wastes. Composting is the process by which microrganisms break down complex organic matter, such as household kitchen waste into simple and high quality manure for the soil. There appears tremendous potentiality of producing organic compost by installing a composting machine within the premises of any housing society for the residents which may eventually be marketable. Moreover, Government also encourages for decentralised composting arrangements under Swachch Bharat Mission.
