Product Description

Indian Dairy Sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world and has set the goal to double its processing capacity from 53.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) to 108 MMT by 2025. The dairy sector is currently growing at around 10-12% annually.

On account of a growing middle class, rising prosperity, changing food habits and level of awareness, the demand of milk and milk products is certainly going to increase on a rapid pace in the Indian market. With an increase in the spending power of the population, the demand for milk and other value-added dairy products is only set to increase in the coming years. Based on estimates of population growth (the country is expected to count 1.5 billion population inhabitants by 2035) and increase in urbanisation for the next four decades, it is anticipated that India needs around 600 million tonnes of milk per year to fulfill the demand for milk and milk products. This means that India’s milk production needs to grow at around 3.2% CAGR for the next 40 years.

As income from crop production is seasonal, whereas dairy farming provides stable income for several rural households in India. In this way, the dairy sector offers good self-employment opportunities that have rightly been explored by the Self Help Groups formed in large numbers in the past few years and these ventures have mostly been successful in India. Higher production potential and sustainability component make it a good model for ensuring rural prosperity.
