Product Description

Rice is one of the most important staple food crops that are cultivated on a large scale in India. Rice stands out as the third most cultivated crop over the planet after corn and wheat respectively. India holds distinction for being the second largest producer of rice in the world after China and the fourth largest exporter. The major rice-growing states in India are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar and Chhattisgarh which together account 75% of total rice production in the country. The three largest rice-producing states are West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Paddy or rice grain consists of husk and brown rice. Brown rice in turn, contains bran which comprises the outer layer and the edible portion. It needs to be suitably processed for obtaining rice. Rice milling involves the process of removal of husk and bran from paddy grains to obtain the edible portion for consumption. The process has to be accomplished with care to prevent excessive breakage of the kernel and improve recovery of paddy or rice. Low-cost portable modern rice mills have been developed and are available in the market but many prospective entrepreneurs are not aware of its existence. There is a need to develop improved rice mills as a village level agro processing unit for bringing about technical upgradation and development of the sector.

The rice production in India was 172.8 million metric tons in 2018 and is projected to register a CAGR of 2.7% during the forecast period, 2020-2025. Rice being the staple food for the majority population of India, market demand exists round the year in every household. The potential target customers and market for the proposed set-up would comprise of customers of local area, Departmental stores, Supermarkets, Retail Stores, Traders, Suppliers, Hospitals, Caterers, Road-side Dhabas, Restaurants, Hostels and Canteens.
